These no-bake Poppy Seed Rolls have pretty much no expiry date, a dough that’s made of dates and nuts, and a filling made with sweet vanilla poppy seed jam. Which also means they’re vegan, gluten-free, grain-free, full of protein and super healthy. They don’t require baking and are ready to eat as soon as they’re all rolled up.
Fudgy with sweet vanilla oozing out from the centre with each mouthful is exactly how I’d describe this. So what are you waiting for?!
Questions about Poppy Seed Rolls
How to make Poppy Seed Rolls? To make Poppy Seed Rolls you will need blend dates and almond flour in a food processor until it becomes doughy. Remove and knead briefly to get rid of lumps and make it more smooth with an even texture. If dough is too sticky, you can add more almond flour. Roll onto a sheet of clingfilm into a long rectangle. In a saucepan, add plant milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract and tapioca starch and continuously mix with a wooden spoon on a simmer until it thickens. Remove from heat and fold in poppy seeds, forming a thick sticky paste. Spread onto the dough and roll tightly. Wrap in clingfilm and rest in fridge for 1 hour.
Is almond flour healthy? Almond flour is packed with protein, unsaturated fat, lipid-soluble vitamin E and is also low in carbohydrates. It is suited to many people with intolerances, except for those with a nut allergy. However, it does also contain phytate (also known as phytic acid), which can prevent the absorption of minerals such as calcium and iron. Soaking almonds overnight can help to eliminate this issue as this process reduces the phytic acid content. Almond flour is also higher in fat than typical grain-based flours.
Poppy Seed Rolls Substitutions
Almond flour can be replaced with coconut flour for the dough and shouldn’t make any difference to texture. The taste will have an added coconut flavour.
Coconut sugar or soft brown sugar can be used in place of the maple syrup. If you prefer to be sugar-free then replacing with stevia would also be fine.
