Gram Flour Pancakes

These Indian Savoury Chickpea Pancakes are crisp, light, salty, spicy, fragrant and perfect for dipping. Make for a great appetiser, light lunch or even snack, that's how versatile they are!

  • 180 g chickpea flour or gram flour/besan
  • 750 ml water
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1-2 green chillies chopped
  • Handful fresh coriander chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Oil to cook


  • Slowly whisk in the water and stir until there are no lumps.
  • Add the chilli and coriander and allow to rest for 5-10 minutes.
  • Heat a frying pan or skillet, add a dash of oil (optional) and pour a ladle full of batter, stirring the pan around to evenly distribute the mixture.
  • Allow to cook for 5 minutes before flipping over and cooking a further 5 minutes.
  • Serve immediately.
